I
was born in San Antonio
at Santa Rosa Hospital
in 1947 and have never left the area. I attended Woodlawn Hills Elementary up
till midway of the 6th grade and then we moved and I finished the 6th grade at Ridgeview Elementary. In 7th grade I went to Robert
E Lee Junior High (the last year of the junior high at Lee). I went to Nimitz
in the 8th and 9th grades, then back to Lee. I was in the
Lee-ettes in my sophomore and junior years of high school. I graduated in 1966
on the football field at Northeast Stadum.
As
a teenager I worked 3 summers at Robert B Green Hospital, which was the county hospital at that time. That made me realize
I could never become a nurse.
I
worked for many years in the accounting field. I loved the challenge of balancing
those numbers. At my first job I had a 100 key adding machines (no calculators
yet) and I made $250 a month. I stopped working in
January 2005 for medical reasons and have never been able to return to work. My
first car was a 1967 Opel purchased brand new for $1700 that I bought at the dealership where I worked and gas was
22 cents a gallon.
I have one son born in June of 1973 that was
in the first class to graduate from Taft High School after attending all four years at Taft.
On
9/11/00, I became a widow after 13 years of marriage. My spouse retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service
in 1989. I will never remarry because I want to keep my military medical benefits.
