Jerilyn Keller, Class of 1984

I wanted to thank Jerilyn Keller for representing the USA in the 2009  21st Summer Deaflympics in Taipei this past September in bowling.  This was her fourth Deaflympics to participate in and was held September 5 – 15th, 2009.

In August her parents sponsored a “Bowling for Fun” honoring Jerilyn at Country Lanes and her upcoming trip to Taipei.  The pictures from Country Lanes were taken by my friend Alec Turnbull.  To read more about her bowling, click on the links below.

Jerilyn has worked at USAA for 23 years.  Jerilyn has three other siblings that attended Lee: Donna “Keller” Schneider ’76, Scott Keller ’80 and Jon Keller ’82.  Her mother, Donna Keller, worked as a secretary at Lee for a number of years.  She left there in 1984.

In 2013, Deaflympics will be going to Greece and Jerilyn is planning on being there.  She may have some fundraisers to help with her travel expenses to Greece.  To see more pictures of Taipei check out her blog listed below and her Facebook profile.   20091120

Rudy Bernal, Class of 1973

Rudy Bernal has been a basketball coach at Lanier High School since 1983.  Recently he was inducted into the National Hispanic Sports Hall of Fame.  To read more about this award, click on the following links.  Rudy was kind enough to send me a pictures of him with the award plaque received on October 9, 2009.  Congratulations to Rudy.  He played basketball all four years  while at Lee.

Rudy’s father, Ramiro Bernal, played on the 1943 Lanier Voks team that won the state basketball title.  His father was awarded the Bronze Star more than 60 years after World War II while serving in the Army during the Battle of the Bulge.

Bruce Collie, Class of 1980

Bruce Collie played football at Lee High School.  He went on to play pro football for the San Franciso 49ers and the Philadelphia.  He played in Super Bowls XXIII and XXIV and won.  He has 2 super bowl rings to show for it.  The story of Bruce’s life from Football Super Bowl to Family Man with 13 children was published in the September 27th Austin American Statesman.  His children’s ages range from 9 months to 16.  Click here to read story.

Dan Allen, Class of 1991
